Earlier in June (between the 5th and 13th), the seventh round of negotiations took place in London on an enhanced FTA between the UK and Switzerland. Switzerland is currently the UK’s 10th largest trading partner, with the current trading relationship worth more than £45billion in 2024. However, improving the support within the FTA for the services sector is a key reason for the current negotiations. Currently, Switzerland is the UK’s 6th largest services export partner.
As it currently stands, provisional agreements have been reached on areas including rules of origin, dispute settlement, development, consumer protection, anti-corruption, and animal welfare.
An eighth round of negotiations is set to take place in Switzerland during the Autumn.
